Abstract

Abstract In the prodn. of impregnated smooth or crepe paper in one operation on the paper machine, the fibre suspension or pulp is treated with a normal wet strength enhancer and opt.conventional sizing agents, fillers and/or dyestuffs and also with 1-12 (2-4) wt.)% (dry basis) of a mixt. (I) of 0.5-5.0 (1-3)% silicone-free adhesive surfactant (II), 89.0-95.5% elastomeric or rubbery polymer (III) and 2.0-6.0% softener (IV). The compsn. is made into a sheet in the usual way and creped if necessary, then treated with more (I) at a residual water content of 6-20% and dried, so that the dry paper contains 7-60% (I). Pref. (II) consists of an organic cpd. with 12-21C alkyl chain(s) and reactive polar gps., e.g. COOH, CN, NH2, OH, ketene or acid anhydride functions. The paper is pref. used as substrate for pressure-sensitive adhesives, esp. adhesive paper for covering and packaging applications. Sticking to the paper machine and costly impregnation and drying of the ready-made paper are avoided.
