Abstract

Abstract Press for making high precision rubber mouldings has an injection unit mounted on a rigid upper platen to which is bolted the upper part of a transfer mould cavity tool. The lower part of the transfer cavity tool is pendant on hydraulic jacks with an integral collar sliding coaxially over the upper tool and past guides on the platen columns. Both the upper and lower transfer cavity tools are temp. controlled, the upper tool being insulated from the lower platen. The lower tool has outlets fitted with captive floating throats sufficiently restricted to contain the material in the transfer cavity unless injection pressure levels are applied by the jacks. The moulding cavity mould tool is raised to meet an insulation layer on the underside of the floating transfer mould plate, the cavities being aligned with the transfer tool outlets. A change of mould tool does not necessarily require a change in the pattern or level of either the components of the transfer mould parts or the overhead fixed platen or the injection unit. The floating throat inserts on the lower transfer mould tool automatically accommodate minor variations in the level of individual mould cavity mouths.
