Bone saw for cutting spherical sections - has curved blade mounted in U=shaped support which is rotatably guided in stirrup positioned over, and gripping bone
Abstract
Abstract The instrument comprises a curved saw blade (10) with serrations along one edge which is mounted on a U-shaped support. The longitudinal axis of the support is orthogonal to the plane of the teeth and passes through the centre of the arc of the circle defined by the blade. The blade and support have a circular alternating motion imparted on them about the longitudinal axis of the support. The support is guided and positioned relative to the bone by a curved stirrup-type strap (2). The strap is positioned on the bone using a screw (3) passing through the knurled nut at each end. The screws have opposed frusto-conical ends which bear against the bone surface.
