Selon l'invention, il consiste à former une couche de revêtement à la surface du solide au moyen d'une solution de revêtement contenant un composé d'hydroxysilane représenté par la formule générale : R n Si(OH)4-n où R est un groupe choisi dans la classe consistant en hydrocarbures, alcoxy et acyloxy et n est un nombre de 0, 1, 2 ou 3; et à chauffer le solide ainsi enduit à une température qui n'est pas inférieure à 150 degrés C pour former une pellicule de revêtement de silicium oxydé.
