Abstract
Abstract The tube is used for taking and storing a blood sample and has a flexible cap (2) fitted over its end. This is pierced by a hollow needle (8), forming part of a covr (9) fitting closely over the capped end. This needle communicates with a passage (7) in the cover, leading to a closed chamber (4) at one side. On pulling down a plunger (5, 6), a vacuum is created in the chamber and in the tube (1). This draws blood through a second hollow needle (11) fitted (10) into the cover and also pierces the cap into the tube.
