Abstract

An electronic signal representing the density of picture elements of a line analyzed in an original image and containing a number of picture elements equal to the sum of an integer multiple of the number of partial point values of a single line of halftone raster and a predetermined extension parameter is electronically transformed into a halftone reproduction signal by comparing the image signal with the single line of partial point values of the halftone raster to form an electronic halftone image. An electronic raster function represented by the single line of partial dot values automatically produces a halftone raster angularly displaced to a predetermined angle from the original electronic image when the number of picture elements in the line parsed of the original document is made equal to the sum of an integer multiple of the number of partial point values and a predetermined extension parameter. Then the analyzed entry is automatically electronically rasterized into halftone cells approximately in the shape of a parallelogram extending at said predetermined angle. The single line of partial point values only needs to be shifted circularly through a comparator. No indexing or electronic shifting of partial point values is necessary.
