SYNTHETIC IMOGOLITE, ITS OBTAINING PROCESS AND APPLICATIONS
Abstract
The invention describes the synthesis of a mineral material related to a rare constituent of soil, imogolite. It is synthesized by causing, at a pH of 3.5 to 5.0, the digestion of soluble, freshly formed hydroxy-aluminum complexes at pH 3.5 to 5.5 in aqueous solution with a restricted concentration of Al. At a concentration of less than 1% dry matter, this product forms gels. It can be used as molecular sieve, catalyst, thickener, etc.
