ELASTOMERIC THERMOPLASTIC MIXTURE BASED ON A POLYOLEFINIC RUBBER AND A COPOLYMER SEQUENCE PROPYLENE-ETHYLENE
Abstract
Process for the preparation of a thermoplastic elastomeric mixture based on a polyolefin rubber and on a thermoplastic polyolefin. The blend contains: 1. 25 to 85% -weight of a substantially amorphous copolymer of ethylene and alpha -olefin with a crystallinity of less than 4% -weight and a tensile strength of at least 10 kg / cm ** 2, and 2. 15 to 75% -weight of an essentially crystalline block copolymer of propylene and ethylene with an ethylene content of 1 to 25% -weight and a crystallinity greater than 25% -weight. Blends based on these propylene block copolymers are easier to work with and have a higher tensile strength than those based on propylene homopolymers. 20-200 parts of oil per 100 parts of amorphous ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer can be incorporated into the blends to achieve further improvement in processability and elongation at break. The mixtures can be prepared according to the processes known for rubber and plastics by means of the usual equipment at temperatures of 170 to 200 degrees C. The mixtures of the invention, ranging from flexible and rubbery products to rigid and impact resistant products, lend themselves to countless applications, especially in the manufacture of cable sheaths and automobile bumpers.
