Abstract

Abstract A short circuit detector employs a method which involves shunting a D.C. line which is to be protected. The shunt signal is then passed through an amplifier (2), a filter (3) and a detector (4). The detector is an operational amplifier whose function is to measure the growth of the current within a given interval of time. The output of the detector goes into a comparator which has a defined threshold. When the output signal of the detector is greater than the threshold signal, a relay is energised disconnecting the original supply line. For an A.C. line, the shunt signal needs to be rectified.
