Electronic starter for discharge tubes - has two thyristors with voltage divider and cold electrode discharge tube
Abstract
Abstract The starter (12) is for discharge tubes having preheated electrodes and fed directly from a a.c. source through a series ballast impedance. The starter (12) temporarily connects the electrode of the discharge tube and has two terminals connecting with the electrodes and thyristor (17) whose anode and cathode are respectively connected to two terminals (10, 11). The trigger electrode of the thyristor (17) is connected to a voltage divider (22, 19) arranged between the two terminals and to a cold electrode discharge tube (23). A second thyristor (18) is connected head to tail with the first, the trigger of the second transistor being connected to a voltage divider (20, 24) connected between the cold cathode discharge tube (23) and the cathode of the second thyristor (18).
