Fire resistant asbestos felt honeycombed panels - alkaline silicate based glue is used to bond components
Abstract
Abstract Hexagonal cells are formed from 45 deg. uniformly angularly corrugated strips which are brought together and interbonded on abutting staggered and alternate faces; the resulting hexagonal grid then being contained by parallel upper and lower sheets. Pref. the glue is an aqueous sodium silicate with added pulverized silica or kaolin and fabrications are further strengthened by the impregnation of sodium silicate solution, fired at 500 deg.C. Pref. panels embody edge stiffening comprising vertical strips of honey-combing and cell walls are slit, allowing pressure equalization without accelerating combustion.
