Abstract

Abstract A protective cover sheet is applied by melt adhesion onto a ski by feeding both components longitudinally through a heated roll nip. Pref. the cover material comprises either a thermoplastic sheet or a layer of varnish modified by thermoplastic resins and pref. incorporating solid reinforcement such as glass or polyamide fibres. Pref. the cover strip is profiled to match the (concave) ski surface, and the cover is parted from a heat sensitive release coating on a supporting sheet while passing with the ski through a nip with a heated roller of silicone rubber. Method is esp. for applying wear covers to low cost ski bodies moulded from plastic materials, specif. polystyrene or polyurethane based resins, with dense walls and an expanded core.
