Abstract

Abstract A system (50) supports page exception programming in a document reproduction system without requiring cursor control to identify each page subject to exception processing. An exception page selector (54) receives input that uses a naming convention to identify pages within a document for exception programming. The naming convention may include an odd/even designation, an imposition template identifier and/or page numerals. An exception programmer (58) enables an operator to correlate different device color profiles for pages identified by the exception page selector (54). Exception parameters that may also be correlated to pages identified by the exception page selector include anti-aliasing, trapping, black overprinting parameters, and other known printing parameters.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 30 words
A method for managing documents for printing in a document management system comprising: identifying pages within a document with a naming convention; and specifying exception parameters for the identified pages.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 18 words
The method of claim 1, the identification of pages further comprising: entering an imposition scheme for the document.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 33 words
The method of claim 2, the identification of pages further comprising: entering a page designation, the page designation preferably further comprising: designating pages with numerals; and separating the numerals with white space characters.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method of claim 3, the page numeral entry further comprising: separating the page numerals with a range indicator.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
The method of claim 4, the page identification further comprising: entering an even/odd designation for the page range indicated by the page numerals and range indicator.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 61 words
The method of any of the preceding claims, wherein the exception parameter specification further comprises one or more of: specifying a device color profile for the identified pages; specifying a trapping parameter for the identified pages; specifying black overprinting parameters for the identified pages; specifying anti-aliasing parameters for the identified pages; and, including an imposition template identifier in the naming convention.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 39 words
A system for managing documents for printing in a document management system comprising: an exception page selector for identifying pages within a document with a naming convention; and an exception programmer for specifying exception parameters for the identified pages.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 18 words
The system of claim 7, the exception page selector including: an input window for entering the naming convention.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 48 words
The system of claim 7 or claim 8, the naming convention including one or more of: an even/odd designator for the identified pages of the document; an imposition template identifier; page numerals separated by a range indicator; and, an even/odd designator for the identified pages in the range.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 58 words
The system of any of claims 7 to 9, the exception programmer further comprising one or more of: a device color profile parameter that is correlated with the identified pages; a trapping parameter that is correlated with the identified pages; and, one of a black overprinting parameter and an anti-aliasing parameter that is correlated with the identified pages.
