Abstract

Abstract An electrical connector for flexible printed board (1) includes a housing (4) with an opening (6), and a cover (7) rotatable about a pivotal axis (56) for closing or opening the opening (6). When the cover (7) is closed, a pressure portion (48) disposed along one edge (42) of the cover (7) is clamped between a flexible printed board (2) on a resilient piece (35) of a fork-shaped contact (22) and a fixing piece (33) of the contact (22) while pressing the flexible printed board (2) against the resilient piece (35). A wire (45) fixed within the cover (7) includes a pair of opposite ends (46, 46) projecting from lateral sides of the cover (7) along the pivotal axis (56), and an intermediate portion (47) circumventing the pressure portion (48) as spaced a distance from the pivotal axis (56).

Claim 1
Independent Claim 237 words
An electrical connector for flexible printed board comprising: a synthetic-resin housing (4) having an opening (6), a plurality of fork-shaped contacts (23) being arranged to face the opening (6), each of the contacts having a fixing piece (33) and a resilient piece (35) in vertically opposed relation, a synthetic-resin cover (7) being rotatable around a predetermined pivotal axis (56) to open or close the opening (6), characterized by a pressure portion (48) disposed along an edge (42) of the cover (7), the edge being close to the pivotal axis (56), the pressure portion (48), with the cover (7) closed, being clamped between a flexible printed board (2) on the resilient pieces (35) and the fixing pieces (33) while pressing the flexible printed board (2) against the resilient pieces (35), and a metallic wire (45) being partially embedded in the cover (7) during the molding of the cover (7), wherein the wire (45) includes a pair of opposite ends (46, 46) and an intermediate portion (47) between the opposite ends (46, 46), wherein the opposite ends (46, 46) project from lateral sides (44) of the cover along the pivotal axis (56) and are supported by corresponding pivotal support portions (14, 14), respectively, and wherein the intermediate portion (47) is spaced from the pivotal axis (56) to circumvent the pressure portion (48) and is at least partially embedded in the cover (7) during the molding of the cover (7).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 30 words
The connector for of claim 1, characterized in that the cover (7) includes an opening (53) for exposing a part (58) of the intermediate portion (47) of the wire (45).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
The connector of claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the intermediate portion (47) of the wire (45) is substantially of a channel form.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 30 words
The connector of claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized by at least one metallic reinforcement wire (51) being at least partially embedded in the cover (7) during the molding thereof.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
The connector of claim 4, characterized in that the cover (7) includes an opening (54) for exposing a part (59) of the reinforcement wire (51).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
The connector of any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the cover (7) includes an open hole (40) allowing retractable entrance of a front end (38) of the fixing piece (33) of the contact (23).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 44 words
The connector of any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the edge (42) of the cover (7) is formed with an open area (B) for partially exposing the fixing piece (33) of the contact (23) when the cover (7) is closed.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 37 words
The connector of any one of claims 1 to 7, characterized by a pair of metallic reinforcement plates (10, 10) fixed to the housing (4), the reinforcement plates (10, 10) including the pivotal support portions (14, 14).
