Abstract
Abstract A methodology for dynamically creating (10), modifying (30), and deleting (40) nodal views of a managed network environment is presented. The methodology stores the group view information in a file that may be edited by a user. This allows the user to be able to dynamically configure group view information. The methodology also provides menubars, popup menus, and toolbar that are context sensitive to the group view that is selected (50).

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim
116 words
A method (10) for allowing a user to create group views of a managed
network environment information by dynamically manipulating a user interface
of a windows-based computer environment, comprising: displaying a list of a plurality of group views within the user interface,
each group view of the plurality of group views containing a plurality of group
view attributes (12); selecting to add a new group view to the plurality of group views (14); entering a plurality of group view attributes of the new group view (16); adding the new group view to the plurality of group views (18); and displaying an updated list of a plurality of group views that includes the
new group view (20).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method of claim 1, wherein selecting to add the group view is
accomplished by manipulating one or more approach controls of a user
interface.
Claim 3
Independent Claim
114 words
A method (30) for allowing a user to modify group views of a managed
network environment information by dynamically manipulating a user interface
of a windows-based computer environment, comprising: displaying a list of a plurality of group views within the user interface,
each group view of the plurality of group views containing a plurality of group
view attributes (32); selecting to modify a group view of the plurality of group views (34); modifying one or more group view attributes of the group view of the
plurality of group views (36); and displaying an updated list of a plurality of group views that includes the
modified group view of the plurality of group views (38).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method of claim 3, wherein selecting to modify the group view is
accomplished by manipulating one or more approach controls of a user
interface.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
103 words
A method (40) for allowing a user to delete group views of a managed
network environment information by dynamically manipulating a user interface
of a windows-based computer environment, comprising: displaying a list of a plurality of group views within the user interface,
each group view of the plurality of group views containing a plurality of group
view attributes (42); selecting to delete a group view of the plurality of group views (44); deleting the group view of the plurality of group views (44); and displaying an updated list of a plurality of group views that does not
include the deleted group view (46).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method of claim 5, wherein selecting to delete the group view is
accomplished by manipulating one or more approach controls of a user
interface.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
82 words
A method (50) for providing context-sensitive group views of managed
network environment information using a windows-based computer
environment, comprising: selecting to open a group view of a plurality of group views; opening the group view of the plurality of group views (52); determining a context sensitive information of the group view of the
plurality of group views (54); and modifying one or more user interface mechanisms of the user interface
to conform with the context sensitive information of the group view (56).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
26 words
The method of claim 7, wherein selecting to open a group view is
accomplished by double-clicking on a group view icon (90) of a user interface.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
28 words
The method of claim 8, wherein determining context sensitive
information of the group view is accomplished by performing a lookup on a
registration file for the group view.
