Abstract

Abstract The present invention relates to an exhaust purifying apparatus for an in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine and causes exhaust gas temperature to rise reliably, thereby desorbing reliably a sulfur component (SO x ) adhered to an NO x catalyst and enhancing the durability of the NO x catalyst. For this reason, the exhaust purifying apparatus for an in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine comprises an NO x catalyst (9A) for adhering NO x to itself in an oxygen concentration excess condition and desorbing NO x in an oxygen concentration reduction condition, and sulfur component desorption means (107) for desorbing a sulfur component from the NO x catalyst (9A). The sulfur component desorption means (107) injects additional fuel during an expansion stroke in addition to main injection and burns the additional fuel again so that exhaust gas temperature is raised to a predetermined temperature or beyond, whereby the sulfur component is desorbed.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 176 words
In an exhaust purifying apparatus equipped in an in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine which is equipped with a fuel injection valve (8) for injecting fuel directly into a combustion chamber and in which fuel is injected during at least a compression stroke by said fuel injection valve (8) to perform stratified-charge combustion, the exhaust purifying apparatus for the in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine comprising: an NO x catalyst (9A) provided in an exhaust passage of said internal combustion engine, the NO x catalyst adhering NO x to itself in an oxygen concentration excess condition and desorbing NO x in an oxygen concentration reduction condition; and sulfur component desorption means (107) for desorbing a sulfur component from said NO x catalyst (9A); wherein said sulfur component desorption means (107) injects additional fuel during an expansion stroke in addition to main injection for said stratified-charge combustion and also burns said additional fuel again within said combustion chamber so that exhaust gas temperature is raised to a predetermined temperature or beyond, whereby said sulfur component is desorbed.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 79 words
The exhaust purifying apparatus for the in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine, as set forth in claim 1, further comprising: a sulfur component adhesion quantity estimation means (109) for estimating an adhesion quantity of a sulfur component which adheres to said NO x catalyst (9A) and reduces an NO x adhesion ability of said NO x catalyst (9A); wherein said sulfur component desorption means (107) is operated according to output from said sulfur component adhesion quantity estimation means (109).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 57 words
The exhaust purifying apparatus for the in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine, as set forth in claim 2, wherein said sulfur component adhesion quantity estimation means (109) estimates an adhesion quantity of the sulfur component, based on a total fuel injection quantity which is obtained from an integrated value of injector drive periods of all operating modes.
