Abstract

Abstract In a collaborative computer network system, at least one of the computers (14,18) is connected to a voice telephone system. When a call is made from a first telephone (22) to a second telephone (22), the called and calling telephone numbers are converted to network addresses, thereby enabling a collaborative session to be established between a local and a remote computer (18), whereby a shared workspace (40) can be utilized by both the called and the calling parties.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 113 words
A method of managing a collaborative computer system including a plurality of computers (14,18) connected in a network (10,12), characterized by the steps of: connecting at least one of the computers (14,18) to a voice telephone system, recognizing when a call is made to from a calling party to a called party through the voice telephone system; communicating identification information for the call from the voice telephone system to the connected computer (14,18), wherein the identification information identifies the calling and called parties; and establishing a shared workspace (40) on the network (10,12) between a first computer (18) associated with the calling party and a second computer (18) associated with the called party.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 22 words
A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the identification information comprises automatic number identification identifying the calling and called parties.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 35 words
A method according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized by the step of mapping phone numbers associated with the calling and called parties to corresponding network addresses of the first and second computers (18).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 43 words
A method according to claim 3, characterized in that the mapping step comprises the step of accessing a table on the connected computer (14,18) associating network addresses for the first and second computers (18) with extension numbers for the calling and called parties.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 45 words
A method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by the step of replicating selected information displayed on the first computer (18) at the second computer (18); and of replicating selected information displayed on the second computer (18) at the first computer (18).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 145 words
A collaborative computer system for managing shared workspaces, charcaterized by: one or more computers (14,18) connected together in a network (10,12), wherein at least one of the computers is connected to a voice telephone system; means performed by one of the computers (14,18), for recognizing when a call is made to from a first telephone (22) identified by a calling number to a second telephone (22) identified by a called number through the voice telephone system; means for communicating identification information for the call from the voice telephone system to the connected computer (14,18), wherein the identification information identifies the calling and called numbers; and means for establishing a shared workspace (40) on the network (10,12) between a first computer (18) associated with the first telephone (22) using the calling number and a second computer associated with the second telephone (22) using the called numbers.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 22 words
A system according to claim 6, characterized in that the identification information comprises automatic number identification identifying the calling and called numbers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 38 words
A system according to claim 6 or claim 7, characterized in that one of the computers (14,18) further comprises means for mapping the calling and called numbers to corresponding network addresses of the first and second computers (18).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 43 words
A system according to claim 8, characterized in that the means for mapping comprises means for accessing a table on one of the computers (14,18) to associate the network addresses for the first and second computers (18) with the calling and called numbers.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 59 words
A system according to any one of claims 6 to 9, characterized in that the means for establishing further comprises means for initiating a session between the first and second computers (18) on the network (10,12) associated with the calling and called numbers, so that the first and second computers (18) access the shared workspace (40) across the network.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 41 words
A system according to claim 10, characterized by means for replicating selected information displayed on the first computer (18) at the second computer (18); and means for replicating selected information displayed on the second computer (18) at the first computer (18).
