Abstract
Abstract Micromechanical microwave switches with both ohmic and capacitive coupling (802, 812, 803) of rf lines and integration in multiple throw switches useful in microwave arrays. The invention can be embodied in the form of a phase shifter, a time delay network, a filter selective network or in an integrated circuit. The invention has advantages including switches with no power consumption, low cost, linearity and also compatability with both Silicon and Gallium arsenide intergrated circuits. <IMAGE>

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
55 words
A phase shifter, comprising: a plurality of switchable phase shift elements arranged in series; and connections between successive ones of said elements, wherein each of said elements includes at least one switch with a deflectable switch element, a setting of said at least one switch determining a phase shift for a signal through said element.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
57 words
The phase shifter of claim 1, wherein: each of said elements includes an input terminal, an output terminal, first and second transmission line segments, and two switches with deflectable elements; and wherein said two switches connect ends of either said first transmission line segment or said second transmission linesegment to said input terminal and said output terminal.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
80 words
A time delay network, comprising: an array of subarrays, each of said subarrays including N components with N a positive integer; and a plurality of switchable time delay elements, each of said time delay elements connecting one of said subarrays to a node; wherein each of said time delay elements includes at least one switch with a deflectable switch element, a setting of said at least one switch determining a time delay for a signal through said time delay element.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
13 words
The network of claim 3, wherein : said array is a two-dimensional array.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
35 words
A filter selective network, comprising: an input port and an output port; filter elements connected by switches between said input port and said output port, wherein each of said switches includes a deflectable switch element.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
27 words
The filter of claim 5, wherein: said filter elements are stubs connected by said switches to a line from from said input port to said output port.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
77 words
A integrated circuit, comprising: a membrane supported on at least two sides over a first conductor on a substrate; a conductive region on said membrane and connecting to a second conductor on said substrate; a pull down electrode on said substrate and under said membrane; wherein a voltage greater than a threshold and applied between said conductive region and said pull down electrode will pull said membrane down to make an electrical connection to said first conductor.
