Claim 1
Independent Claim 246 words
A moisture-curable silicone hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesive composition comprising: (i) a hydroxyl-functional organopolysiloxane resin having a softening point above ambient temperature and comprising R 3 SiO 1/2 siloxane units and SiO 4/2 siloxane units, wherein the mole ratio of the R 3 SiO 1/2 siloxane units to SiO 4/2 siloxane units has a value of from 0.5/1 to 1.2/1, R is selected from hydrocarbon radicals and halogenated hydrocarbon radicals and said hydroxyl content is 1.2 to 6 percent by weight; (ii) a diorganopolysiloxane polymer each terminal group thereof containing at least two silicon-bonded alkoxy radicals having 1-4 carbon atoms, said polymer having a viscosity of 25°C. of 20 to 100,000 mPa·s (centipoise) or a diorganopolysiloxane polymer as just defined capped in situ; and the weight ratio of said resin to said polymer being in the range 40:60 to 80:20; (iii) a silane of the formula R' 4-y SiX y , in which R' is selected from hydrocarbon radicals and substituted hydrocarbon radicals having 1-6 carbon atoms, X is a hydrolyzable group and y is 2 to 4, the amount of said silane being sufficient to provide stability to said composition; and (iv) sufficient catalyst to accelerate the cure of said composition, said composition being a solvent-free, solid at 25°C having a minimum room temperature dynamic viscosity in the range 2 x 10 7 to 8 x 10 7 mPa·s (cP) when measured at 1 radion/sec and which cures to a non-tacky elastomer upon exposure to moisture.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 20 words
The composition according to claim 1, wherein R of said resin (i) is methyl and said diorganopolysiloxane (ii) is polydimethylsiloxane.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
The composition according to claim 2, wherein X of said silane (iii) is an alkoxy radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
The composition according to claim 2, wherein X of said silane (iii) is selected from acetoxy radical, acetamido, N-methylacetamido and a ketoxime group.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 59 words
The composition according to claims 3 or 4 wherein the terminal groups of said diorganopolysiloxane (ii) are selected from the structures (MeO) 3 SiO-, Me(MeO) 2 SiO-, (MeO) 3 SiCH 2 CH 2 SiMe 2 O- and -CH 2 CH 2 Si(Me) 2 OSi-(Me) 2 CH 2 CH 2 Si(OMe) 3 , in which Me denotes a methyl radical.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 37 words
The composition according to claim 5 wherein the weight ratio of said resin (i) to said diorganopolysiloxane (ii) is 50/50 to 70/30 and the viscosity of said diorganopolysiloxane (ii) is 350 to 60,000 mPa·s (cP) at 25°C.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 51 words
The composition according to claim 1 wherein the silane (iii) is an alkoxy-functional silane wherein the alkoxy radical has 1 to 4 carbon atoms which is used in an amount sufficient to provide a molar ratio of said silane to the hydroxyl functionality on said resin (i) of at least 0·1.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 35 words
The composition according to claim 7 wherein the number average molecular weight of said resin (i) is 3,000 to 15,000 and the hydroxyl content of said resin (i) is 2.5 to 4.5 percent by weight.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 20 words
The composition according to claim 8 wherein said silane (iii) is selected from isobutyltrimethoxysilane, methyltrimethoxysilane, phenyltrimethoxysilane, propyltrimethoxysilane, tetramethoxysilane and tetraethoxysilane.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 22 words
The composition according to claim 8 wherein the weight ratio of said resin (i) to said diorganopolysiloxane (ii) is 55/45 to 65/35.
Claim 11
