Mobile radio network with alternative error protected voice or data transmission

Abstract

Abstract In the GSM digital mobile radiotelephony system, digitised speech is transmitted in the form of data blocks which are error-protected in a first area and not error-protected in a second area and which are transmitted via a speech channel with a defined bit rate. So that no additional transmission channel needs to be provided for the transmission of external data, the data signals processed in a specific way are transmitted according to the invention alternatively instead of the digital speech signals. All external data are subjected to a first error protection and then a first error-protected data component (D1) is fed in bit-synchronously instead of the first area (B1) and a second error-protected data component (D2) provided with a second additional error protection is fed in bit-synchronously instead of the second unprotected area (B2) of the digital speech signals. A preferred field of application for the method is a GSM mobile radiotelephony network. <IMAGE>
