Integrated optical amplifier and laser utilising such an amplifier
Abstract
<IMAGE> The invention relates to an integrated optical amplifier comprising, on a silicon substrate, a main guide which receives, at a first end, an input signal and which delivers, at a second input, an output signal, this main guide comprising an intermediate zone forming a guide of a first type comprising a guiding layer (37) using a material with a very large difference in index ΔN: ΔN> = 0.3 relative to an upper layer (39) and a lower layer ( 36) between which the guide layer is interposed, this guide of the first type being, surrounded by two external zones each forming a guide of a second type making it possible to make the guide of the first type compatible with a single-mode fiber (13, 14), the transitions between the two types of guides being adiabatic transitions. The intermediate zone comprises an amplifying zone in which the guiding layer is doped by ion implantation of at least one rare earth and the main guide is associated with means for introducing a pump wave. The invention also relates to a laser using such an amplifier. Application in particular to optical telecommunications. <IMAGE>
