Abstract

Abstract The data processing system translates a logical address made up of a partial space number, a logical space number and an address within a page to a physical address made up of a physical page number and the address within a page and accesses a memory section under the coexistence of a plurality of page sizes. The system further comprises a table holding section for holding a plurality of sets of copies of a plurality of address translation tables stored in the memory section on a partial space basis. The plurality of sets of copies are each assigned to a particular page size. A load control section loads one of the plurality of address translation tables into the table holding section in response to an address translation table load command. A directory supervising section supervises partial spaces each corresponding to one of the plurality of address translation tables held in the table holding section. A first loading section executes by defining the partial spaces assigned to the same page size as a single supervisory unit in the directory supervising section, load control over the plurality of address translation tables independently. This data processing system is capable of translating addresses having a plurality of page sizes dynamically to thereby enhance efficient use of a memory and improve the overhead of an operating system.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 192 words
A data processing system having a function of translating a logical address made up of partial space number, a logical space number and an address within a page to a physical address made up of a physical page number and said address within a page, and accessing a memory section under the coexistence of a plurality of page sizes, said system comprising: table holding means for holding a plurality of sets of copies of a plurality of address translation tables stored in the memory section on a partial space basis, said plurality of sets of copies being each assigned to a particular page size; load control means for loading one of the plurality of address translation tables in said table holding means in response to an address translation table load command; directory supervising means for supervising partial spaces each corresponding to one of the plurality of address translation tables held in said table holding means; and first loading means for executing, by defining the partial spaces assigned to the same page size as a single supervisory unit in said directory supervising means, load control over the plurality of address translation tables independently.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 46 words
A system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising second loading means for controlling said load control means on the basis of page size data indicated by the address translation table load command in order to load the address translation tables in said table holding means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 86 words
A system as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein said directory supervising means comprises: coincidence detecting means having a plurality of entries holding respective partial space numbers for determining whether or not any of said partial space numbers held in said plurality of entries and a partial space number of a logical address for accessing the memory section are coincident; and address generation control means for controlling the generation of a physical address in response to a result of detection from said coincidence detecting means.
