Abstract

Abstract The deformation member comprises a tubular element which absorbs energy when subjected to axial stress. The tubular element is formed by two tubular components (5,6) with different diameters which are pushed one into the other locally in order to form a connecting section (7). In the region of the connecting section, the tubular components, which consist of an aluminium alloy, are connected to one another by means of an adhesive connection (10). This low-weight deformation member can be easily integrated into a steering system or a vehicle body structure. <IMAGE>
