Claim 1
Independent Claim
152 words
An ink jet recording apparatus for recording an image on a recording medium using recording means comprising a plurality of recording elements, comprising: scan means for performing a scan operation by moving said recording medium relative to said recording means; driving means for driving said plurality of recording elements in the scan operation by said scan means; selection means for selecting one of a first recording mode for performing image recording by a first number of times of scan operations on a predetermined region of said recording medium, and a second recording mode for performing image recording by a second number of times of scan operations larger than the first number of times of scan operations on the predetermined region; and control means for controlling a scan speed of said scan means according to the selection of said selection means, wherein the scan speed varies between the first and second recording modes.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
26 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the scan speed in the second recording mode is higher than the scan speed in the first recording mode.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
96 words
An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the first recording mode is a mode for recording an image by performing a single scan operation on the predetermined region, and when the scan speed in the second recording mode is N times the scan speed in the first recording mode, said driving means drives said plurality of recording elements in a dot pattern in which a minimum dot distance in the scan direction in the second recording mode becomes not less than N times a minimum dot distance in the scan direction in the first recording mode.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
71 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the second recording mode is a mode for recording a desired image by recording a thin image the second number of times by performing the scan operation by the second number of times on the predetermined region, and said driving means performs recording by driving said plurality of recording elements so that dots recorded in adjacent scan operations are not continuous with each other.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
17 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising means for varying an inclination of said recording means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
29 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein each of said plurality of recording elements causes a change in state in an ink by heat energy to eject the ink.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
29 words
An apparatus according to claim 2 wherein each of said plurality of recording elements causes a change in state in an ink by heat energy to eject the ink.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
29 words
An apparatus according to claim 3, wherein each of said plurality of recording elements causes a change in state in an ink by heat energy to eject the ink.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
29 words
An apparatus according to claim 4, wherein each of said plurality of recording elements causes a change in state in an ink by heat energy to eject the ink.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
29 words
An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein each of said plurality of recording elements causes a change in state in an ink by heat energy to eject the ink.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
46 words
Ink jet recording apparatus in which a plurality of ink jets are driven in a sequence, and the ink jets are scanned along a recording medium, characterised by means for scanning the ink jets at a first, relatively low, speed and a second, relatively high speed.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
49 words
An ink jet recording apparatus arranged to print an image by performing a first scan over the image area in which a first set of image points are printed and at least one further scan of the image area in which further sets of interleaved image points are printed.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
52 words
An ink jet printer arranged to be able to print in a first mode in which an image is printed as a first set of image points and second mode in which an image is printed as a first subset of points and a second subsets of interleaved points, in successive scans.
Claim 14
Independent Claim
47 words
A method of ink jet printing in which an image area is overprinted plural times so as to provide an image in which the positional offsets of ink dots are smaller than the minimum distance dictated by the minimum sequential nozzle drive time and the scan speed.
