Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim
47 words
An apparatus for reproducing data stored on a disc, comprising: rotating means for rotating the disc; and data processing means having a plurality of optical pickup devices for reading the data from the rotating disc, wherein each pickup device reads a different part of the data area.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
25 words
An apparatus as in claim 1, wherein the optical pickup devices are positioned so that all the data on the disc may be read simultaneously.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
37 words
An apparatus as in claim 1, wherein each of the optical pickup devices has a lens for directing a beam onto the disc and lens control means for shifting the position of the beam on the disc.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
18 words
An apparatus as in claim 3, wherein each of the lens shifts the beam approximately the same distance.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
109 words
An apparatus for reproducing data stored on a disc, comprising: rotating means for rotating the disc; a plurality of optical pickup devices for reading the data from the rotating disc, wherein each optical pickup device simultaneusly reads a different part of a data area on the disc; a plurality of processing units for processing the data read by each of the optical pickup devices; data storing means having a plurality of storage areas corresponding to the processing units for storing the data processed by the different processing units; control means for reading the data stored in the storage area and transmitting the data in response to an access requirement.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
275 words
An apparatus for reproducing digital data stored on a disc in a constant linear velocity form, the digital data being composed of a aeries of data blocks which have corresponding address data to identify the data block, comprising: rotating means for rotating the disc; a plurality of optical pickup devices for reading the data from the rotating disc, wherein each pickup device reads a different part of a data area on the disc; first control means for controlling the rotating means to rotate the disc at a first speed corresponding to one of the optical pickup devices, and controlling the pickup devices to read out the data simultaneously during a first reproduction mode; data processing means having a plurality of processing units for processing the data read by each of the optical pickup devices; first storing means having a plurality of storage areas for storing the data output by each of the processing units, corresponding to each data block represented by the address data, in the first reproduction mode; second storing means for setting flag data, corresponding to each of the storage areas, which indicates that each data block was stored in the storage area by the first storing means; detecting means for inspecting the flag data to detect lack of the data stored in the storage area; second control means acting in response to the detecting means for controlling the rotating means to rotate the disc at a second speed corresponding to a selected pickup device which is to read out the missing data, and this control means causing the selected pickup device to read out the lacking data in a second reproduction mode.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
32 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, 5 or 6, wherein the pickup devices are located at different radial distances from the centre of a disc being rotated by the rotating means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
25 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, 5 or 6, wherein the optical pickup devices are each able to read data simultaneously from a disc.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
32 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, 5 or 6, wherein the optical pickup devices are arranged in spiral formation in a plane parallel to the plane of a disc being rotated.
