Process for preparing alkaline earth acetates
Abstract
Abstract To prepare alkaline earth acetates by reaction of the corresponding alkaline earth oxides, hydroxides or carbonates with 85 to 100% strength acetic acid, at least one of the calcium compounds and/or at least one of the magnesium compounds having a stoichiometric excess of up to 1.9% of acetic acid at the start is added to a mixing section and the material is stirred therein for 10 to 100 minutes with continuous mixing. At a point in the mixing section which the mixture reaches after 5 minutes at the earliest, up to 1.9 mol% of a basic alkali compound is added, relative to the acetic acid added. In this way, a 10% strength aqueous solution of the reaction product leaving the mixing section has a pH of 7.5 to 10.
