Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 141 words
A femoral trial implant (10) comprising: (a) a modular bracket (12) defining a structure having an internal surface adapted to be seated on the distal aspect (14) of a resected femur (16) and an external surface with a shape resembling the normal distal condyle of the femur, including an elongated central opening (18) appointed to expose a selected portion of the resected femur (16); (b) means for guiding a tool (22) along a predetermined arcuate path for controlled shaping of a patellar groove (26) in the exposed portion of the femur through the opening (18); and (c) a replaceable insert (28) covering the opening (18) and articulating with a proximal aspect of the tibia during interoperative trial reduction of the knee joint, whereby prior removal of the bracket (12) from the resected bone is unnecessary following shaping of the patellar groove.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 36 words
The trial implant of claim 1 wherein the means described in (b) comprises a track (20) extending along a side of the opening and adapted to contact the tool as the tool moves along the track.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The trial implant of claim 2 wherein the track further comprises a pair of rails (20) formed along opposed sides of the opening.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
The trial implant of claim 1 further comprises means for reversibly interlocking the insert with the guide means of (b).
