Abstract This invention relates to the use of 3-aryl-5-alkylthio-4H-1,2,4-triazoles and the corresponding alkylsulfinyl- and alkylsulfonyl-4H-1,2,4-triazoles for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition useful in the treatment of patients suffering from chronic hyperreflexia due to spinal trauma.

A method for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition useful in the treatment of hyperreflexia resulting from spinal trauma which comprises combining a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof wherein Ar is phenyl or naphthyl; R₁ is C₁₋₆ lower alkyl; R₂ is hydrogen or C₁₋₆ lower alkyl; R is C₁₋₆ lower alkyl, C₁₋₆ alkoxy, hydroxy, halogeno, or trifluoromethyl, and n is zero, 1 or 2, or R n -(Ar) is methylenedioxyphenyl; and each of m and q is zero, 1 or 2 with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
