Abstract

Abstract A portable radio unit (200) used with an adapter unit (1) having a hands-free circuit (70) and for adaptively supplying the portable radio unit with electric power. The hands-free circuit is activated in response to a contact between a connecter (T92, T62) of the portable radio unit and a connecter (T91, T61) of the adapter unit in the event that the portable radio unit is in a communication state when it is attached to the adapter unit. When the portable radio unit is not powered by its rechargeable battery (100) attached thereto or is not in a communication state when it is connected to the adapter unit, the first power supply circuit (40) of the adapter unit supplies the rechargeable battery of the portable radio unit. When the portable radio unit is in the communication state when it is connected to the adapter unit, the second power supply circuit (30) of the adapter unit supplies the portable radio unit through the rechargeable battery.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 210 words
A radio telephone apparatus comprising a portable radio unit (200) having receiving means (202, 234) for receiving radio frequency signals, demodulating means (231) coupled to the receiving means for demodulating the radio frequency signals into audio signals, an earpiece (213) coupled to the demodulating means for outputting the audio signals, a mouthpiece (214) for inputting speech signals, modulating means (232) coupled to the mouthpiece for modulating the speech signals into radio frequency signals, transmitting means coupled to the modulating means for transmitting the radio frequency signals (233, 202, 234), and an adapter unit (1) attachable to the portable radio unit, having a speaker (900), a microphone (700) and a hands-free circuit (70) coupled to the second contact type connecter means, the speaker, and the microphone for controlling the level of signals output from the speaker in response to the level of signals input to the microphone, characterised by: first computer means (T92, T62) on the portable unit and co-operating second connecter means (T91, T61) on the adapter, whereby the hands-free circuit is activated in response to a contact between the first connecter means (T92, T62) and the second connecter means (T91, T61) in the event that the portable radio is attached to the adapter unit whilst communication is in progress.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 210 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 50 words
A radio telephone apparatus according to claim 1 further characterised in that the hands-free circuit is not activated in response to a contact between the first connecter means and the second connecter means unless the portable radio unit is powered up or when it is attached to the adapter unit.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 111 words
A radio telephone apparatus according to claim 1 or claim 2 further characterised in that the portable radio unit comprises first power supply means (40) for charging a rechargeable battery of the portable radio unit with electric power in the event that the portable radio unit being not in the communication state is connected to the adapter unit and second powersupply means (30) forsup- plying the portable radio unit with electric power in the event that the portable radio unit being in the communication state is attached to the adapter unit, the power supply capacity of the second power supply means being larger than that of the first power supply means.
