Abstract

Abstract A video data processing apparatus converts one of NTSC type and VGA type video signals to the other or overlays the two types of video signals and outputs them as either an NTSC type overlaid video signal or a VGA type overlaid video signal. The processing apparatus has two video memories (156, 174) for storing video signal data. One of the two video memories stores solely VGA type video data. The other video memory stores either VGA type video data or NTSC type video data depending upon the particular function being carried out by the processing apparatus. Video data may be read out from the other video memory using different scan rates so that an individually dedicated memory is not required for each type of video data in performing the above-mentinoed conversions and overlays.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 96 words
A method of generating an index image from images recorded in an image recording medium and recording said index image in said image recording medium, CARACTERIZED IN THAT said method comprises the steps of: (a) preparing an image recording medium (18) storing first video signals first video signals representative of images; (b) reading the first video signals out of the image recording medium; (c) generating a second video signal representative of a summarized image (252) of the images represented by the first video signals; and (d) recording the same video signal in the image recording medium.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 62 words
A method according to claim 1 CARACTERIZED IN THAT the image recording medium comprises a video floppy (18); step (c) comprising the steps of: (e) generating an index image by arranging reduced images of the images represented by the first video signal in an area of one video frame (250); and (f) generating the second video signal representative of the index image.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
A method according to claim 2 CARACTERIZED IN THAT said method further comprises the steps of: (g) generating data representing at least one of a text and graphics; and (h) inserting the generated data in the index image.
Claim 4
Independent Claim 89 words
An apparatus for generating an index image from images recorded in an image recording medium (18) and recording said index image in said image recording medium, CARACTERIZED IN THAT said apparatus comprises: reproducing means (12) for reading first video signals representative of images out of am image recording medium; summarized image generating means (14) for generating a second video signal representative of a summarized image of the images represented by the first video signals; and recording means (12) for recording the second video signal in the image recording medium.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 203 words
An apparatus according to claim 4 CARACTERIZED IN THAT said image recording medium comprises a video floppy which stores first video signals each being representative of one video frame of image; said summarized image generating means comprising: first store means (156) for rewritably storing the first video signals in the from of digital data; second store means (174) for rewritably storing digital video data representative one video frame of image; and control means (10) for controlling said reproducing means and said recording means and controlling said first and second store means to generate reduced images of the images represented by the first video signals; said control means reading the first video signals out of said reproducing means and storing said first video signals in said first store means, reading the first video signals out of said first store means while skipping pixels, and storing each of said first video signals in any one of a plurality of areas of said second store means which define one video frame, thereby generating am index image, and reading data representative of the index image out of said second store means to generate a second video signal and feeding said second video signal to said recording means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 68 words
An apparatus according claim 5 CARACTERIZED IN THAT said appratus further comprises data processing means (42) connected to said control means for generating data including at least one of a text and graphics; said control means receiving the data generated by said data processing means to store said data in said second store means, whereby said data is inserted in the index image at said second store means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 38 words
An apparatus according to claim 6 CARACTERIZED IN THAT said apparatus further comprises display means for receiving the second video signal read out of said second store means to visualize the image represented by said second video signal.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 86 words
An apparatus according to claim 6 CARACTERIZED IN THAT said apparatus further comprises display means (24) for receiving the second video signal read out of said first store means to visualize the image represented by said second video signal; said control means reading the second video signal out of said second store means to transfer said second video signal to said first store means and reading said second video signal out of said first store means to feed said second video signal to said display means.
