Abstract

Abstract The balloon dilatation catheter has a first lumen (8) which extends over the entire length of a shaft (21) and which is connected to a pump (14) and, at the distal end of the catheter (1), to the inside (5) of the balloon (22). A supporting wire (3) connected securely to the catheter (1) also passes through this lumen (8). The shaft (21) has a further lumen (9) which opens outwards through an opening (10) behind the proximal end of the balloon (22). A controllable guide wire (20) can be introduced into this lumen (9) via a connection piece (16). Similarly, a measuring device (19) or a device for introducing a contrasting medium or medicament can be connected to this further lumen (9). The catheter (1) is particularly suitable for treating strictures in an arterial ramification. <IMAGE>

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 103 words
Balloon dilatation catheter having a shank (21), a first lumen (8) extending through the shank (21) for dilating a dilatation balloon (22) mounted at the distal end of the shank (21), and a support wire (3) fixedly connected to the balloon (26) and/or the shank (21), characterised in that the shank (21) has another lumen (9) having an opening (10) which opens outwardly before the proximal end of the dilatation balloon (22), said lumen (9) being connected at the proximal end of the shank (21) to a connector (16) through which a guide wire (20) can be passed through said additional lumen (9).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 25 words
Catheter according to claim 1, characterised in that the opening (10) is provided immediately in front of the proximal end of the dilatation balloon (22).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 33 words
Catheter according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the first lumen (8) is substantially semicircular or semilunar in cross section and the second lumen (9) is substantially circular in cross section.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 117 words
Arrangement with a catheter according to claim 1 and an exchangeable, controllable guide wire, characterised in that, at the proximal end of the shank (21), a first connector (11) is provided, having a branch (13) for the attachment of a pressure/suction pump (14) for dilating or collapsing the dilatation balloon (22) and having a branch (12) for a second connector (16), and in that the second connector (16) has a branch (18) for the attachment of a measuring device (19) or a device for introducing a contrast agent or drug into the additional lumen (9) and an inlet (17), capable of being sealed in fluidtight manner, for inserting the guide wire (20) into the additional lumen (9).
