Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim
201 words
Device comprising a housing (10,110) having a rotatable shaft (14,114) extending through a first opening (12) therein and an apparatus for drivingly engaging said shaft (14,114), reducing the diametral runout about a central axis (34,134) and driving a rotary sensor (16,116), the apparatus comprising: a first annular axially extending member (26,126) having a first end drivingly engaging the coaxially disposed shaft (14,114); a second opposing end of said first annular member (26,126) drivingly engaging said sensor (16,116); said first annular member (26,126) having a radially extending portion (28,128) disposed proximate said second end defining a peripheral surface which extends equidistantly from a central point (30,130); the device further comprising a second annular extending member (32,132) defining a bore having a central axis which is maintained coincident with a preferred axis of rotation; and said bore having a dimensional interrelation with said radially extending portion (28,128) which facilitates sliding relation therebetween, thereby maintaining said central point (30,130) coincident with said central axis (34,134) wherein diametral runout of said second end with respect to said first end is reduced by the distance between the central point (30,130) and the first end divided by the distance between the central point and the second end.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
23 words
The invention of Claim 1 wherein said second annular extending member (32) defining a bore is maintained fixed with respect to said housing.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
26 words
The invention of Claim 1 wherein said second annular extending member (132) defining a bore is journalled in said housing facilitating rotation about said central axis.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
200 words
Device comprising a housing (10,110) having a rotatable shaft (14,114) extending through a first opening (12) therein and an apparatus for drivingly engaging said shaft (14,114), reducing the diametral runout about a central axis (34,134) and driving a rotary sensor (16,116), the apparatus comprising: a cylindrical member (26,126) defining a first bore disposed about said shaft (14,114); a first end of said cylindrical member (26,126) drivingly engaging said shaft (14,114); a second end of said cylindrical member (26,126) drivingly engaging said sensor (16,116); an annular protrusion (28,128) defining a spherically shaped annular profile extending from said cylindrical member (26,126) proximate said second end; and said housing defining a second bore (32,132) having an axis coincident with said central axis and oriented coaxial to and in sliding relation to said annular protrusion (28,128) whereby said second bore (32,132) maintains said annular protrusion (28,128) in a rotational axis coincident with said central axis and wherein diametral runout of said second end with respect to said first end is reduced by the distance between the center (30,130) of the annular protrusion (28,128) and the first end divided by the distance between the center (30,132) of the annular protrusion (28,128) and the second end.
