Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
123 words
A method for configuring a plurality of functional units (30, 40, 50) of a work station including a central processing unit (10), characterized by the steps of providing each of said units (30, 40, 50) with a plurality of configuration registers (70) having individual addresses associated therewith, providing latch register means (72) for consecutively receiving configuration data to be written into said configuration registers of one of said units as selected by addresses provided by pointer means (74), connecting all of said units in series, activating for configuration a first one (50) of said series of units, and activating for configuration each successive unit of said series upon said pointer means holding a predetermined final address in respect of the immediately preceding unit.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
33 words
A method according to claim 1, characterized by the step of resetting all of said units (30, 40, 50) prior to activating for configuration said first one (50) of said series of units.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
43 words
A method according to either claim 1 or claim 2, characterized by the step of applying an enabling signal to all of said plurality of units prior to activating for configuration said first one (50) of said series of units (30, 40, 50).
Claim 4
Independent Claim
45 words
A method according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that an activating signal is continuously applied to said first one (50) of said series of units (30, 40, 50) whereby said first one is activated for configuration upon receipt of said enabling signal.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
39 words
A method according to claim 4, characterized in that said activating signal is provided by connecting a port of said first one (50) of said series of units (30, 40, 50) to a voltage source via resistive means (82).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
104 words
A work station including a central processing unit (10) communicating through a local bus (20) and a plurality of interfacing units (30, 40, 50) with various other devices such as memories (42) and peripherals (52A-52E), characterized in that said interfacing units (30, 40, 50) each include a plurality of configuration registers (70), and said local bus (20) is arranged to connect all said interfacing units in series, and in that there is provided pointer means (74) for consecutively selecting said configuration registers of a selected interfacing unit, and latch register means (72) for consecutively receiving configuration data for writing thereof into addressed configuration registers.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
24 words
A work station according to claim 6, characterized in that said configuration registers (70) of said interfacing units (30, 40, 50) share common addresses.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
55 words
A work station according to either claim 6 or claim 7, characterized in that a SETUP line (68) is connected to all said interfacing units (30, 40, 50) whereby an enabling signal is applied to all said interfacing units such that each interfacing unit is activated for configuration when an activation signal is applied thereto.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
110 words
A work station according to claim 8, characterized in that an input port of a first interfacing unit (50) in said series is connected to a voltage source via resistive means (82) whereby this interfacing unit is activated for configuration in response to receipt of said enabling signal, and an output port of each interfacing unit in said series, other than the last, is connected to an input port of the next interfacing unit in said series, each interfacing unit in said series, other than the last, being arranged to apply an activating signal to the next interfacing unit in said series upon completion of the configuration of the former.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
40 words
A work station according to any one of the claims 6 to 9, characterized in that a RESET line (69) is connected to all said interfacing units (30, 40, 50) for resetting all configuration registers (70) of said interfacing units.
