Abstract

Abstract A color image forming apparatus, in which a belt-shaped image carrier (7) is stretched and conveyed around rotating rollers (3,4) on which image exposure is conducted by a plurality of exposure units (20,21,22,23), which are disposed on a plurality of step-formed supporting surfaces (42,52,62,72) below the lower surface of the image carrier (7). The stepped formation (42,52,62,72) of the exposure unit supporting surfaces avoids interference between optical paths of laser beams for image exposure, and facilitates compactness of the apparatus. The belt-shaped image carrier (7) and the supporing surfaces are provided at a relative angle of 5-30 degrees.

A color image forming apparatus comprising: (a) a belt type image carrying member stretched and conveyed around rotatable rollers on which said image carrying member is conveyed; (b) a plurality of optical laser exposure means for exposing an image onto said image carrying member; and (c) a plurality of step-formed support surfaces on which said plurality of exposure means are disposed in parallel with each other.

A color image forming apparatus comprising: (a) an image forming means including a moving image carrying member on which an image is formed and a plurality of exposure means which are disposed around said moving image carrying member; (b) means for detecting a specific image pattern output from each of said exposure means; (c) means for calculating positional differences between said exposure means through the specific image patterns detected by said detecting means; and (d) means for compensating positions of said exposure means, based on the calculated positional differences.

The apparatus of claim 5, wherein an image reading means of said apparatus is used as said detecting means.
