Abstract

Abstract Two processes for metering fuel are disclosed. In one process, the expected intake manifold pressure during the next intake cycle is calculated and used to determine the quantity of fuel to be injected for the next intake cycle. In the other process, the quantity of air determined using the intake manifold pressure is corrected by means of a model which takes account of the effects of temperature. Both processes make it possible to meter fuel more accurately than conventional processes, which is an advantage particularly in the case of unsteady transitions. The ignition timing can also be advantageously adjusted using the calculated quantities of air.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 152 words
Process for determining the fuel quantity to be fed, dependent on operating variables, to an internal-combustion engine during each intake stroke by means of calculations taking place in computing cycles, in which process - the air mass sucked in for combustion during each intake stroke is determined by means of the intake-pipe pressure, and - the fuel quantity to be fed during each intake stroke is determined from this air mass, with a wall-film model being taken into account, wherein - an associated intake-pipe pressure and a factor G(n) corresponding to a time constant for the change of the intake-pipe pressure are determined by means of values of a variable indicating the air-intake cross-section and the engine speed, and - starting from these values, the intake-pipe pressure pS(n+1) critical for an intake stroke and occurring in the future and intended for stationary operating conditions is calculated by means of a recurrence formula.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 24 words
Process according to Claim 1, characterised in that the respective value for the intake-pipe pressure can be read off from a family of characteristics.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
Process according to Claim 1, characterised in that the respective value for the factor G(n) can be read off from a family of characteristics.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 73 words
Process according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterised by - the calculation of a provisional air mass sucked in for combustion, - the calculation of an air-mass correction value taking temperature influences into account from a relation, predetermined for the internal-combustion engine to be regulated, between values of operating variables and the particular correction value, and - correction of the provisional air mass calculated by means of the air-mass correction value.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 41 words
Process according to one of Claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the ignition time for each stroke is determined in the conventional way from the air-mass value, the predicted calculated value being used as a value for the air mass.
