Optical waveguide component and method of manufacturing an optical waveguide component
Abstract
In a method for producing an optical waveguide component, in which a glass substrate is fitted with optical waveguides made of an optical polymer, the surface of the glass substrate is covered with a protective layer and the protective layer for producing a line structure at the relevant locations at which the optical waveguides are to be arranged, subjected to a photolithographic process. In the line gaps thus formed in the protective layer, hydrofluoric acid is placed on the glass substrate to etch out a capillary-like channel and the channel formed is filled with the optical polymer. This allows optical waveguides to be introduced into waveguide components whose cross-sectional geometry approximates that of the transmission glass fibers used for the optical waveguide.
