Abstract

Abstract A gaming chip is disclosed having at least one base portion (12, 26) and a transponder (28), said base portion (12, 16) fixedly locating said transponder (28) within said chip (10), said transponder (28) being capable of transmitting chip identification information. The base portions may include a mounting vehicle (26) precisely fitting within a generally flat ring (12). The transponder (28) is preferably connected to an antenna (30). According to a process for fabricating the chip (10), a thermoplastic molding compound is formed around said ring (12) and an outer peripheral portion (42) of said mounting vehicle (26), thereby permanently locking said ring (12) and said mounting vehicle (26) together (Figure 5).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 17
Claim 1
Independent Claim 64 words
A process for fabricating gaming chips (10), characterized by the steps of. - providing a substantially flat ring (12) having a central aperture therein; - locating an insert (26) within said aperture; and - forming thermoplastic molding compound (60) around said ring (12) and an outer peripheral portion (42) of said insert (26), thereby permanently locking said ring (12) and said insert (26) together.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 34 words
The process of claim 1, characterized by said insert (26) having at least one label (22) thereon, said molding compound (60) forming a lip (24) over the outer peripheral portion of said label (22).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 48 words
A process for fabricating a gaming chip (10), characterized by the steps of: - providing a substantially flat ring (12) having a central aperture therein; - locating a transponder (28) within said aperture; and - molding said ring (12) and transponder (28) to form said gaming chip (10).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 55 words
The process of claim 3, characterized by the steps of: - connecting an antenna (30) with said transponder (28); - locating said connected antenna (30) and transponder (28) on a mounting vehicle (26); and - locating said mounting vehicle (26) and antenna/transponder combination (28, 30) in said flat ring (12) prior to said molding step.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
The process of claim 3 or 4, characterized by the step of encoding said transponder (28) with gaming chip identification information.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 32 words
The process of any of claims 3 through 5, characterized by the step of locating identifying indicia on one of said transponder (28) and said antenna (30) prior to said molding step.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 51 words
A gaming chip, characterized by: - a substantially flat ring (12) having a central aperture therein; - an insert (26) having at least one label (22) thereon within said aperture; and - thermoplastic molding compound (60) formed around said ring (12) and an outer peripheral portion (42) of said insert (26).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 21 words
The chip of claim 7, characterized by said label (22) having a small lip (24) formed over its outer peripheral edge.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 43 words
A gaming chip, characterized by: - at least one base portion (12, 26) ; and - a transponder (28), said base portion (12, 16) fixedly locating said transponder (28) within said chip (10), said transponder (28) being capable of transmitting chip identification information.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 17 words
The chip of claim 9, characterized by each portion (12, 26) having a central aperture (34) therein.
