Abstract

In devices of this type, there is the disadvantage that the introduction of the needle-shaped injection nozzle, with which the gas is introduced into the mold cavity (cavity), is problematic, since the previously injected plastic melt in the outer edge region can very quickly become skin-like as a result of cooling, so that a safe penetration of the injection nozzle or a puncture of the already formed skin is not guaranteed. The plastic melt in the puncture area of the gas injection nozzle may also be lifted off with gas loss. The aim of the invention is to avoid these disadvantages and to achieve a safe immersion of the needle without damage or without lifting off the edge zones of plastic melt which has already been fed in, as a result of which an exact metering of the amount of gas fed in during the mass production of hollow plastic articles is achieved. This object is achieved in that the end (17) of the gas injection nozzle (8) facing the mold cavity (3) projects freely into approximately the middle of the part of the mold cavity (3) assigned to the gas injection nozzle. The invention is used in particular in the mass production of hollow plastic bodies, which preferably consist of partially crystalline plastics, for example polyamide.
