Method and device to inject fuel in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine
Abstract
The invention relates to a method for injecting a fuel into a combustion chamber of an air-compressing, self-igniting internal combustion engine. To control the heating process, it is proposed to influence a nozzle needle (42) which is controlled in a magnetostrictive way by means of electronics in such a way that the total injection duration tg is broken down into smaller sections with the opening duration tO and the pulse interval ta. The fuel supplied to the injection nozzles (7) is removed from a pressure vessel (5) at constant pressure. A conventional injection pump (1) serves as the pressure generator. The injection nozzles (7) for carrying out the method according to the invention are held in the closed position by hydraulic means. The opening process is controlled by a magnetostrictive actuator (26) and supported by the interaction of the hydraulic forces on the nozzle needle (42) after opening. The pulsed injection reduces pressure and temperature peaks, which reduces combustion noise and NOx emissions.
