A data processing system comprising a plurality of data processing devices (17) adapted to perform data processing operations on an input stream of data, a control system (13) for operating said data processing devices in parallel, and selection means (12) for selecting which data processing device is to receive for processing each item of data in said data stream, characterised in that said control system comprises dividing means for dividing said input stream of data into a sequence of sets of data (203), operation transfer control means (136) for indicating when a set of data has been fully received by a data processing device, and means (134) for operating said selection means in response to the output from said operation transfer control means to select a first data processing device to receive for processing a first set of data, a second data processing device to receive for processing the next set of data in the sequence, and a different one of the plurality of data processing devices to receive for processing each subsequent set of data in the sequence of data.

A data processing system as claimed in Claim 1 characterised in that, when all of the data processing devices have received for processing one set of data, said selection means selects the first data processing device to receive for processing the next set of data in the sequence and repeats the selection operation until all the sets of data have been received for processing.
