Abstract

Abstract The invention relates to a digital radio link system and a method of adjusting the transmission power in a digital radio link system. The system comprises at a receiving end (2) a first means (11) for monitoring the error rate estimate and for producing a first control signal (S err ) if the error rate estimate exceeds a predetermined threshold value. At a transmitting end (1) the system comprises means (4) for adjusting the transmission power, said means responding to the occurrence of the first control signal (S err ) by increasing the transmission power. In the system of the invention there is further provided at the receiving end a second means (9) for monitoring the rate of change of the received signal level and for producing a second control signal (S mp ) if the rate of change exceeds a predetermined threshold value. The means (4) for adjusting the transmission power respond to the occurrence of the first (S err ) or the second (S mp ) control signal by increasing the transmission power temporarily close to the maximum transmission power.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 80 words
A method of adjusting the transmission power in a digital radio link system by monitoring the received signal level and the error rate estimate at the receiving end, characterized by monitoring the rate of change of the received signal level and the error rate estimate; and increasing the transmission power temporarily to a value close to the maximum transmission power if the error rate estimate or the rate of change of the received signal level exceeds a predetermined threshold value.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 80 words
A method of adjusting the transmission power in a digital radio link system by monitoring the received signal level and the error rate estimate at the receiving end, characterized by monitoring the rate of change of the received signal level and the error rate estimate; and increasing the transmission power temporarily to a value close to the maximum transmission power if the error rate estimate or the rate of change of the received signal level exceeds a predetermined threshold value.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 41 words
A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the transmission power is increased temporarily to the maximum transmission power if both the error rate estimate and the rate of change of the signal level exceed the predetermined threshold value simultaneously.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 59 words
A method according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the transmission power is restored from the value close to the maximum transmission power to the normal value after a predetermined period of time after the last detection of an error rate estimate or a rate of change of the received signal level which exceeds the threshold value.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method according to claim 3, characterized in that the transmission power is restored to the normal value as a function of time gradually or monotonously.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 53 words
A method according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the transmission power is increased with a small increment if the rate of change of the received signal level and the error rate estimate do not exceed the predetermined threshold value but the received level is below a predetermined threshold level.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 50 words
A method according to claim 5, characterized in that the transmission power is decreased by an equal increment or another increment if the error rate estimate and the rate of change of the signal level do not exceed and the received signal level is not below the predetermined threshold value.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 39 words
A method according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the rate of change of the received signal level is monitored by comparing each particular signal level with a short-term average or a preceding measured signal level.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 159 words
A digital radio link system, comprising at a receiving end (2) a first means (11) for monitoring the error rate estimate and for producing a first control signal (S err ) if the error rate estimate exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and at a transmitting end (1) means (4) for adjusting the transmission power, said means responding to the occurrence of the first control signal (S err ) by increasing the transmission power, characterized in that there is further provided at the receiving end a second means (9) for monitoring the rate of change of the received signal level and for producing a second control signal (S mp ) if the rate of change exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and that said means (4) for adjusting the transmission power respond to the occurrence of the first (S err ) or the second (S mp ) control signal by increasing the transmission power temporarily close to the maximum transmission power.
Claim 10
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 47 words
A system according to claim 8, charac terized in that said means (4) for adjusting the transmission power respond to the simultaneous occurrence of the first (S err ) or the second (S mp ) control signal by increasing the transmission power to the maximum transmission power.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 98 words
A system according to claim 8 or 9, characterized in that there is further provided at the receiving end a third means (10) for monitoring the received signal level and for producing a third control signal (S min ) if the received signal level is below the predetermined threshold value, and that said means (4) for adjusting the transmission power respond in the absence of the first (S err ) and the second (S mp ) control signal to the occurrence of the third control signal (S min ) by increasing the transmission power by a small increment.
