Abstract

The surgical laser instrument is suitable for alternating contact cutting and contactless coagulation of biological tissue using fiber-optically guided radiation from a laser. For this purpose, the radiation emitted by the biological tissue (9, 19), received again via the distal end (4.2, 14.2) of the fiber optic light guide (4, 14) and returned via the fiber optic light guide (4, 14) in a spectral range between 0. 3 and 0.9 µm detected while filtering out the laser radiation and directed onto a radiation detector (7, 17). The radiation power of the laser (1.1, 11) is regulated by means of the detector output signal to a value below the destruction threshold of the fiber-optic light guide (4, 14) in such a way that when the biological tissue (9, 19) to be cut is burned, as well as on the distal end (4.2, 14.2) of the fiber optic light guide (4, 14) adhering or emitted in the burned-in tissue residues does not exceed a predetermined value.
