Claim 3
Dependent Claim
59 words
A system according to claim 1, in which the stored identifying address of each receiving means includes a area code unique to the area in which the associated receiving means (20) normally resides and the stored current location is either the aforementioned area code or a second area code defining a temporary location of the subject receiving means (20).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
63 words
A system according to claim 2, in which the routing means of the first paging request means is responsive to a paging request including the identifying address for one paging receiver (20) to look up the current location thereof and to route the paging request to one of the transmitting means (44) in accordance with the area code stored in the current location.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
115 words
A system according to claim 2, in which: the routing means (210, 212) of the second local paging request means is responsive to a paging request including the identifying address for said one paging receiver (20) to transmit via the communications means (38) a request to the first subscriber storage means for the current location of said one paging receiver; the first subscriber storage means includes means responsive to said request for transmitting via the communications means the requested current location to the second routing means; and the second routing means is responsive upon receiving the current location to route the message to the transmitting means (44) for the area code identifying said current location.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
69 words
A system according to any preceding claim in which: the first and second transmitting means (44) broadcast over first and second channels, respectively; and each of the first and second page receiving means (20) includes means (854) for detecting a plurality of broadcast channels, including said first and second channels, and means (858) for scanning said plurality of channels to find one of the channels broadcasting said paging messages.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
77 words
A system according to claim 5, in which each of the page receiving means (20) includes; timing means (720) for turning the receiving means on and off at predetermined intervals to receive messages; means (758) for storing at least one channel for which broadcast paging messages have been received; and means (706) responsive to the timing means for testing the stored channel upon turn on and, in the absence of messages thereon, actuating the scanning means (858).
Claim 8
Independent Claim
108 words
A system according to any preceding claim in which: each of the first and second receiving means includes a timing means (720) for turning the receiving means (20) on at first time intervals; the first and second transmitting means (44) each include transmission queuing means (20) for timing transmission of paging signals intended for a selected receiving means (20) at second predetermined time intervals; and the receiving means (20) each include means responsive to a first paging message for setting the first time interval to coincide with the second time interval so that the selected receiving means (20) turns on in time to receive a second paging message.
