Method and circuit arrangement for forwarding cells transmitted in an asynchronous transfer mode
Abstract
For the forwarding of the cells by a switching device, they each have a cell header, which contains the control information required for the forwarding and the security information attached to them. Based on the security information, transmitted cells are evaluated in the relevant switching device with regard to the occurrence of bit errors in the cell heads. The forwarding of cells identified as defective with regard to the cell heads is prevented. In the course of the evaluation, an occurrence of a defined number of immediately consecutive first cell groups, which are identified as defective cells, is evaluated as the beginning of an error bundle. If a bundle of errors is present, the forwarding of cells identified as defective is prevented until a second number of cells, which follow one another immediately and are recognized as being free of defects, occurs. The occurrence of the relevant second cell group is evaluated as the end of the respective bundle of errors and the last transmitted cell belonging to the relevant second cell group is forwarded.
