Abstract

Abstract An optical reading apparatus which can read both transparent and reflective originals is disclosed. The apparatus comprises: a transparent plate for supporting on the upper face an original from which information is to be read; a light source disposed below the plate; an optical reading unit disposed below the plate and having a converter information read from the original into electric signals; and a processor for processing these signals, and further comprises: a further optical reading unit disposed above the upper face of the plate and having another converter for converting information read from the original into further electric signals; and a switch for selecting either of the electric signals and the further electric signals to be supplied to the processor.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 117 words
In an optical reading apparatus comprising: a transparent plate for supporting on the upper face thereof an original from which information is to be read; a light source disposed below said plate; an optical reading unit disposed below said plate, said optical reading unit having means for converting information read from the original into electric signals; and process means for processing said signals, said reading apparatus further comprises: a further optical reading unit disposed above said upper face of said plate, and having means for converting information read from the original into further electric signals; and switch means for selecting either of said electric signals and said further electric signals to be supplied to said process means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 117 words
In an optical reading apparatus comprising: a transparent plate for supporting on the upper face thereof an original from which information is to be read; a light source disposed below said plate; an optical reading unit disposed below said plate, said optical reading unit having means for converting information read from the original into electric signals; and process means for processing said signals, said reading apparatus further comprises: a further optical reading unit disposed above said upper face of said plate, and having means for converting information read from the original into further electric signals; and switch means for selecting either of said electric signals and said further electric signals to be supplied to said process means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 1 wherein both of said electric signals and said further electric signals are analog signals.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 2 wherein said optical reading unit has attenuating means for attenuating the level of said electric signals.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 2 wherein said further optical reading unit has amplifying means for amplifying said further electric signals.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the level of said amplified further electric signal is greater than the level of said electric signals.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 37 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said optical reading unit reads information from light beams reflected from an original, and said further optical reading unit reads information from light beams transmitted through an original.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 43 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 2 wherein said optical reading unit has amplifying means and said further optical reading unit has further amplifying means, the degree of amplification of said amplifying means being equal to that of said further amplifying means.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 17 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said further optical reading unit is detachably mounted.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 25 words
An optical reading apparatus according to claim 8 wherein said switch means selects said further electric signals when said further optical reading unit is set.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 99 words
Apparatus for reading a document (17), in which the document is supported on a transparent plate 16, and a light source (11) scan-illuminates the document through said plate, wherein the apparatus includes a first photosensitive reading means (10) to be used where the document comprises a light-reflective sheet, for detecting light reflected from the illuminated document and a second photosensitive reading means (20) to be used where the document comprises a transparent sheet for detecting light transmitted through the illuminated document, and signal processing means (35,36,37) for selectively processing signals from said first and said second photosensitive reading means.
