Process for preparing a statistical propylene copolymer

Abstract

Abstract Copolymerisation of propylene with small amounts of other olefins in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metallocene of the formula I <IMAGE> and an aluminoxane gives a copolymer in high yields. This copolymer has a uniform composition and the sequence length of the comonomer blocks is less than 1.25. The molecular weight is in the range from about 100 000 to 360 000 g/mol and the polydispersity Mw/Mn is in the range from 2.5 to 5.5. The copolymer has low crystallinity and high transparency and is non-tacky. Test specimens made from this copolymer have enormous tensile strength. The copolymer is particularly suitable for the production of films for thermoforming and for blow moulding hollow articles.
