Continuous method for making non-self-emulsifying polymer dispersions
Abstract
Abstract A continuous process for the preparation of aqueous, non-self-emulsifying polymer dispersions having small particles and a long shelf life on the basis of high-viscosity reaction resins without addition of solvents by means of a screw compounder which produces vigorous dispersion, the polymer dispersions being prepared in an intensive-shear part of the screw compounder, and the water/reaction resin ratio in this intensive-shear part being at or close to the phase-inversion point, and - the specific input of energy being 0.01 - 0.15 kWh/kg, - the residence time being 0.1 - 60 sec and - the shear gradient being 2000 - 20 000 sec<-><1>.
