Abstract

Abstract A free-standing physical exercising device which can also be configured for use as a posture stool of the kind having a knee support on which the user can kneel while seated on the stool, comprising a ground supported frame (1) on which are disposed a first seat (7) and knee support (8) which together comprise the posture stool, the arrangement being such that the knee support (8) can be used as a second user seat during exercise and that the first seat (7) can be converted into a user back-rest for use during such seated exercise, a user handle (11) attached to the frame (1) for generally vertical movement, and resistance means (13) on the frame and operatively connected to the handle to resist movement thereof whereby the user can grasp and move the handle (10) to exercise. Preferably the exercising device comprises a user foot rest (4) on the frame (1) substantially at ground level so that the user can stand on the foot rest and thereby stabilise the device with his body weight while grasping and moving the handle (11) to exercise.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 125 words
A free-standing physical exercising device which can also be configured for use as a posture stool of the kind having a ground supported frame (1) on which are disposed a first seat (7) and knee support (8) on which the user can kneel while seated on the stool, characterised in that the knee support (8) can be used as a second user seat during exercise and that the first seat (7) can be converted into a user back-rest for use during such seated exercise, a user handle (11) attached to the frame (1) for generally vertical movement, and resistance means (13) on the frame and operatively connected to the handle to resist movement thereof whereby the user can grasp and move the handle to exercise.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 125 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 52 words
A free-standing physical exercising device according to claim 1, characterised by a user foot rest (4) on the frame (1) substantially at ground level so that the user can stand on the foot rest and thereby stabilise the device with his body weight while grasping and moving the handle (11) to exercise.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 45 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that a pair of handles (11) are provided on a lever (10) pivoted on the frame (1) about a generally horizontal axis whereby the handles move in a generally vertical arc.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 31 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 3, characterised in that the resistance means (13) is adjustably attached to the lever (10) so that the apparent resistance can be altered.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 37 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 3 or claim 4, characterised in that the lever (10) is bifurcated and wherein a handle (11) is disposed at the adjacent ends of the pair of forked limbs.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 48 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 5, characterised by a pair of levers (20) pivoted on the frame (1) about a substantially vertical axis for movement towards and away from one another against resistance provided by a second resistance means (25) to permit so-called butterfly exercise.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 63 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to any preceding claim, characterised in that the first seat (7) is pivotable on the frame (1) from a generally horizontal position, in which it is configured for use as the posture stool seat, to the position in which the first seat forms the user back-rest when the user is seated on the second user support (8).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 25 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to any preceding claim, characterised in that the knee support (8) is adjustable in position on the frame (1).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 44 words
A free-standing physical exercising device according to claim 8, characterised in that the knee support (8) is movable on the frame (1) from a first position in which it can be used as the knee support to a generally horizontal generally ground level position.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 24 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to any preceding claim, characterised in that the resistance means (13) comprises an hydraulic piston and cylinder device.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 47 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 10, characterised in that the hydraulic piston and cylinder device (13) is such that resistance is produced in both directions of motion so that the user can exercise by moving the handle (11) generally vertically both up and down.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 63 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to any preceding claims characterised in that the frame (1) comprises a pair of mutually spaced generally parallel ground level cross members (4), one of which forms or carries a user foot rest, the cross members being connected together by a generally horizontal member (3) to one end of which is attached a generally vertical member (2).
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 34 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 12, characterised in that an inclined brace (6) is fixed by its ends to the generally horizontal and vertical members (3, 2) intermediate the ends thereof.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 29 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 13, characterised in that the lever (10) is pivoted on the generally vertical member (2) at or near its top end.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 31 words
A free-standing physical exercise device according to claim 13 or claim 14, characterised in that the first seat (7) and the knee support (8) are mounted on the inclined brace (6).
