Bimetallic flow guide shutter, especially for the exhaust systems of motor vehicles
Abstract
Abstract The present invention relates to a flow guide shutter, especially for the exhaust systems of motor vehicles, which influences exhaust gas flow as a function of the temperature and has a long life, despite extreme environmental conditions. According to the invention, as a result of construction and/or shape and/or additional parts, the shutter is stiffer than a simple bimetallic shutter and has a reduced tendency to vibrate. A flow guide shutter of wedge-shaped longitudinal section is preferred, which consists of a plurality of bimetallic strips (51a, 51b, 54a, 54b, 55a, 55b), which are mounted on a common holder (50). A bimetallic upper strip (51a, 51b) and a bimetallic lower strip (54a, 54b) run from the holder (50) outwards on one another, the end (52) of the upper strip (51a, 51b) being bent around the end of the lower strip (54a, 54b) so that a sliding seat (53) is produced. For reinforcement, one or more bimetallic strips (55a, 55b) can be arranged in the interior of the two outer strips. The present invention makes it possible, for example, for starting catalytic convertors installed near the motor to be protected from the exhaust gas flow when the temperature rises by means of a flow guide shutter, and to lead said exhaust gas flow around the catalytic convertor. <IMAGE>
