Abstract

Abstract A control device attachable to the handlebar (4) of a bicycle for controlling a brake mechanism and change speed mechanism. The control device comprises a bracket (1) fixed to the handlebar and a brake lever (2) pivotable crosswise relative to the bracket. The brake mechanism is controlled by fore and aft pivotal movement of the brake lever, while the change speed mechanism is controlled by sideways pivotal movement of the brake lever (2).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 48 words
A control device for a bicycle having a brake mechanism and a change speed mechanism, comprising a brake lever assembly mounted on a handlebar for controlling the brake mechanism, wherein the change speed mechanism is controllable by movement of at least a portion of said brake lever assembly.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 48 words
A control device for a bicycle having a brake mechanism and a change speed mechanism, comprising a brake lever assembly mounted on a handlebar for controlling the brake mechanism, wherein the change speed mechanism is controllable by movement of at least a portion of said brake lever assembly.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
A control device is claimed in claim 1, wherein said brake lever assembly is pivotable in one direction to control the brake mechanism and swingable in another direction to control the change speed mechanism.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 46 words
A control device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said brake lever assembly is pivotable in one direction to pull a brake wire connected to the brake mechanism and swingable in another direction to wind up a change speed wire connected to the change speed mechanism.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 62 words
A control device as claimed in claim 3, further comprising a control lever, said brake lever assembly being swingable in said another direction to wind up said change speed wire, which brake lever assembly returns to an original position upon release, said control lever being swingable to rewind said change speed wire, which control lever returns to an original position upon release.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
A control device as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 4, wherein said brake lever assembly includes an intermediate portion swingably mounted on a support shaft.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 57 words
A control device as claimed in claim 5, comprising a bracket fixed to the handlebar of the bicycle, and a brake lever assembly supported by said bracket to be pivotable toward and away from said bracket, said brake lever assembly being swingable, to effect change speed, in a direction different from the direction of pivotal movement thereof.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 28 words
A control device as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 4, wherein said support shaft is disposed adjacent a proximal end of said brake lever assembly.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 71 words
A control device as claimed in claim 7, comprising a bracket fixed to the handlebar of the bicycle, and a brake lever assembly supported by said bracket to be pivotable toward and away from said bracket, said brake lever assembly including a base supported by said bracket, and a lever member swingable relative to said base, to effect change speed, in a direction different from the direction of pivotal movement thereof.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 29 words
A control device as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 4, wherein said bracket includes a support shaft acting as a pivotal point of the swinging movement.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 80 words
A control device as claimed in claim 7, comprising a bracket fixed to the handlebar of the bicycle, and a brake lever assembly supported by said bracket to be pivotable toward and away from said bracket, said bracket including a fixing portion secured to the handlebar and a lever support, said brake lever assembly being swingable with said lever support relative to said fixing portion, to effect change speed, in a direction different from the direction of pivotal movement thereof.
